Welcome to GRUB and the bitchy, tonguey lyricism of frontwoman Matilda Beales who writes with brutal honesty and dark humour. Her songs may have the tendency to make you feel painfully uncomfortable at times whilst also wanting to rock out, get sweaty and drool. Her life has been filled with shit-hot times, deep tragedy, and a constant crippling existential crisis, and this comes out in her music which pulls all of one’s wretched emotions together. Not just anger and rage but also a terrifying quiet filled with both poignant beauty and the anxieties of being human.
The band GRUB started off in a simpler form, growing into a fierce, ugly beast with sultry, raging rock dog guitar solos from both Duncan Strachan and Mitch Mcdonald. The rhythm section is made up of Edo Ekic on bass and Peter Bibby on drums- completing an all-star lineup of grubby little sweethearts who have supported the likes of Kill Devil Hills, Full Flower Moon Band, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Southern River Band, Last Quokka and many more. Releasing their debut single in November 2024, Ghost, GRUB are on their way to creating a discography reflective of their ethos—raw, unapologetic, and profoundly human, inviting listeners to embrace life’s messiness, feel deeply, and find strength in solidarity.
